SQWEZ v2.1 INSTRUCTIONS
JM Software (c) 1994 All Rights Rerserved
SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS:
IBM or compatable bios
80x86 or compatable CPU(8088,V20,80286,80386,ect.)
DOS 2.0 or later
SQWEZ v2.1 compresses all selected files to a single executable file
or a .SQZ file. Decompression of .SQZ files is also supported..
Files maybe selected by a command line argument or by running
SQWEZ and using the user interface...
____________________________________________________
EXAMPLE of command line argument:
options = /e = create a self expanding file
/s = create a .SQZ file
/u = uncompress a .SQZ file
/v = view files on a SQWEZ program (.SQZ or .EXE)
/? = mini help screen for SQWEZ
default = /e
C:\UTIL\SQWEZ /e C:\TEST\*.EXE A:\DRAW\DWG\*.PIC B:\ALL

location compress compress save
of all all everything
SQWEZ .EXE files .PIC files to b drive
in this in this as ALL.EXE
directory directory
You may enter as many arguments as your keyboard buffer will allow, but
keep in mind the last argument must be the name you want to call the self
expanding file. The .EXE or .SQZ extender on the last file argument is
optional,if it is not added on, SQWEZ will automatically append it.
If the last name is one that already exits in that directory, a warning will
give you the option of OVERWRITING the file or ending the session.
To uncompress , simply copy the .EXE to the desired location and run it..
To use /v or /u - enter SQWEZ the option and the file to be worked on...
EXAMPLE:
SQWEZ /u myfile.exe (this is to decompress a file)
or
c:\util\SQWEZ /v a:\mydir\myfile.sqz (this is to view a SQWEZed file)
NOTE : the .EXE or .SQZ extention must be included in the filename.
____________________________________________________
EXAMPLE of user interface:
Just run SQWEZ (with no command line arguments) and a menu will allow you
to select the files that are to be compressed.. Other options that are
available in the user interface are :
FILE ATTRIBUTES:
Allows selection of directory,archive,hidden,system
and normal files to be selected and compressed.
SIZE/SPEED :
A smaller value gives tighter compression , a larger
value favors compression speed.. A value in the
middle (10) gives the best balance of size and speed.
MARK FILES :
Enter the drive and or directory that you want to
view , to mark the files for compression.. You can
enter and leave this section as much as needed..
SQWEZ v2.1 keeps track of all files marked..
VIEW FILES :
All files that have been selected in "MARK FILES"
option will be displayed. Up and down arrow keys
will move through the list for a final inspection.
The SPACE BAR will mark any files that ARE NOT to
be SQWEZed.. The status bar at the bottom of the
view window will display SIZE/SPEED , FILE ATTRIBUTES,
total files selected and the output name.
OUTPUT FILE :
Enter the filename that you want the self expanding
file to be called. If you wish to save it to a different
drive or directory , enter it at the prompt..
EX. C:\test\myfile.exe
The .EXE or .SQZ extender does not need to be entered.
SQWEZ will append it if not present.
SQWEZ OPTIONS :
MAKE .EXE FILE:
Once all files to be compressed are marked and an
output filename has been entered , this option
can be entered and SQWEZ will write a self expanding
single file.
If the output file name is one that already exits in
that directory, a warning will give you the option of
OVERWRITING the file or ending the session.
MAKE .SQZ FILE:
Once all files to be compressed are marked and an
output filename has been entered , this option
can be entered and SQWEZ will write a single file with
all marked files. This format will not be self
expanding and will require SQWEZ v2.1 to decompress..
If the output file name is one that already exits in
that directory, a warning will give you the option of
OVERWRITING the file or ending the session.
UNSQWEZ A FILE :
Allows decompression of .SQZ file format..
The destination of the files in the .SQZ file is
noted in the window...If this is not where you want
the files to be written , answer NO to the
"START EXPANDING" prompt and change to the desired
location...
VIEW A SQWEEZED FILE:
Enter a SQWEEZED .SQZ or .EXE file and all
files are displayed along with size , attributes
and CRC. The .EXE or .SQZ extension must be included
in the filename.
______________________________________________________
SQWEZ (both command line and interface )does a CRC check on the original
file before compressing and compares that with another check on the expanded
file for data integrity. SQWEZ will alert you if the values do not match and
give the option of continuing or ending the session..Also if there is another
file with the same name in the directory it is expanding to, an alert will be
given to OVERWRITE the file or not.. SQWEZ may also be exited at any time
by pressing Esc.
USER HINTS:
The user interface and file marking scheme are very memory
intensive..If problems arise with memory shortage, use the
command line version to Sqwez files ..
